Project Profile: Roll the shutters… A secure and effective car park solution

About the project

Located in Fitzrovia London, Yalding House was previously occupied by BBC Radio Studios. This 1930s office block has since been refurbished to provide 29,000 sq.ft of stylish office space, as well as a restaurant and basement unit.

The ambition was to create a modern space that added a new core into a redundant light-well to modernise the air circulation and facilities of the building. Careful planning of logistics was paramount to the project’s progression and the visual aesthetic of the building was important to maintain.

 

Why Greenwood Louvre

Located on a busy block, Great Portland Street is home to the Yalding House project. Complying with planning conditions, achieving high thermal and acoustic performance and establishing fundamental safety measures were the main priorities.

To ensure the safety of occupants when the building is operational, Greenwood Louvre was appointed to develop a roller shutter solution for the car park entrance.

Recognising the need for a door that could keep the building environment as constant as possible whilst accepting high volumes of traffic, Greenwood Louvre delivered its ‘Rapid Rise’ roller shutter.

Travelling up in as little as 2.5 seconds and closing quickly for maximum efficiency, the fast action shutter has been designed to keep the internal temperature as stable as possible as traffic enters and exits. This not only helps to make savings during winter months by reducing heating costs, but also creates a comfortable atmosphere for occupants within the building.

Traditionally roller shutters are solid designs and provide no means of effective ventilation. That said, Greenwood Louvre’s ability to design and manufacture bespoke products that meet design specification and installation requirements resulted in an effective and secure solution that allowed adequate airflow to the space.
