New ‘hub’ hotel for Kings Cross

The redevelopment of Kings Cross is one of London’s biggest recent construction stories, with dozens of new and refurbished buildings serving both the local and commuter/tourist communities.

Among those buildings is the brand new ‘hub by Premier Inn’ compact hotel, a whole new perspective on city centre accommodation, being designed and built by McAleer & Rushe.

The development involved the demolition of low level light industrial buildings in the area and the construction of a new seven-storey building (plus two basement floors), to create a brand new hotel with 389 guest bedrooms.

A key aspect of the building’s architectural success in the new London skyline is the louvred screening on the exterior, designed, specified, supplied and installed by Greenwood Louvre. These louvred screens control ambient temperatures and airflow while also lending the building a unique visual flair.

The finished structure also features restaurant and retail facilities on its ground floor.
